Diversity at Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center

We are proud to promote diversity amongst our staff, researchers, clinicians, healthcare providers, and other employees. Diversity at our organization reflects the diversity of the communities we serve, which in turn enhances the care we can deliver throughout every corner of our community.

We are a National Institute designated comprehensive cancer center in the heart of one of the country’s most diverse and impoverished geographic (catchment) areas. Our aim is to be a national model for reducing cancer incidence and disparities in this environment. To achieve this and increase our reach and impact, we have set the following goals:

  • Establish, sustain and continuously monitor investments in institutional infrastructure and programs to promote a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusivity.
  • Increase participation of women, racial/ethnic minorities, and other underrepresented groups in leadership and the research workforce through pipeline programs with stakeholders in the Bronx, NY.
  • Build, strengthen and evaluate the capacity of the workforce to integrate a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusive excellence in research, clinical care delivery and community engagement.

We are committed to sustaining an environment in which faculty, staff, and trainees are steeped in values that embrace equity (equal access to opportunities), inclusiveness (a sense of belonging and respect), and diversity (individual differences based on gender, age, race/ethnicity, religion, socio-economic status, sexual expression, education, and more).

While Montefiore and Einstein have a long track record of championing diversity, equity, and inclusion issues, we recognize that more work needs to be done in eliminating the barriers experienced by individuals from underrepresented groups in the cancer workforce. A number of these efforts are accomplished through the work of Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Women’s Initiative Network.

We support and encourage our faculty and investigators to incorporate DEI topics and concerns in their research endeavors.
